The Mayans consider the number 8 to be special and some traditional communities have a shrine dedicated to this.  They think 1 and 7 are the beginning and the end so 1 + 7 = 8 making 8 a number of completion or wholeness.  
Eight crystal chatons are encased using peyote stitch  and form the border for a leaf shaped strap made in superduo beads embellished with pearls.  Knowledge of peyote stitch is essential for this workshop.
